The new US administration began to talk about the need to resume negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides which make it not surprising when the US permanent representative to the UN started to talk about that as she considered the direct bilateral negotiation as the «right» alternative for the Palestinians, for their moving towards the United Nations and its institutions, in the light of expansion of the settlement.
Although the United Nations called for that too, but the US call is «mined» because it comes after the positions and serious remarks of Trump's administration which gave the green light for settlement when it considered that it doesn't constitute an obstacle to the «peace», unlike the previous administration, which «opened» its first term by calling for freezing it as a necessary prelude for the resumption of negotiations.
Therefore, it was understood that this call, is as a warning to the official Palestinian leadership and repose for Netanyahu government that what happened under the previous administration in the Security Council, will not be repeated.
The positions of Trump's administration assert that they moved the American attitude from bias to some kind of partnership in the vision for the future of the occupied Palestinian territories of 1967.
This is evidenced by what was said about its position on settlement activities and its severe opposition to what was passed by the previous administration regarding the Security Council resolution that rejected it; besides its intention to move the US embassy to Jerusalem and giving up the «two-state solution» which was adopted by the previous administration as an alternative to the Palestinian national project. However, that is a clear message to the Israeli government to proceed towards its project to establish the «Great Israel», especially after Netanyahu's condition for resuming negotiations, that the Palestinian negotiator should recognize the Jewishness of the State of Israel and its borders stretch from the Mediterranean to the Jordan River.
Thus, the goal of the negotiations is the demarcation of maps of the Palestinian presence in trapped ghettos and maintaining the validity of the PA in managing their situation at the expense of the conditional foreign aids.
While the regional surrounding realizes that its stability key is in the balanced solution for the Palestinian/Arab-Israeli conflict, it is looking today at the opposite direction, so that the solution comes on the Palestinian front as an aggregate to regional agreements with the occupation which is confirmed by the normalization activities between a number of Arab countries and Israel.
In light of this coup in the priorities, and the growing threats to the rights of the Palestinian people, it seems disapproving the continuation of the official Palestinian leadership in its policy of waiting, and sticking to its only option, the negotiations under the roof of the Oslo accords and their restrictions, without paying attention to the entitlement of the tremendous developments that have devastated the region and the collapse of the Arab action and the decreasing of the political ceiling for many Arab countries towards the supposed solution to the conflict, which should guarantee the embodiment of the Palestinian people's rights in return and the establishment of the independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories by the aggression of June 1967 with its capital in East Jerusalem.
Under this waiting policy, the security coordination with the occupation continues and deepens, which is one of the main reasons that enabled the occupation of besieging the Palestinian youth uprising that erupted in the first of October, 2015.
In the light of the positions of Trump's administration t towards the Palestinian issue, and Netanyahu's conditions for the resumption of negotiations, it seems pointless the waiting for something from this administration and it will be an unfortunate repetition for this series of failed bets on the settlement with its rules and mechanisms that has started accordingly for almost a quarter century. According to those rules and mechanisms, Tel Aviv was able to make wide strides in the implementation of its policy of expansion and maintaining an extensive network of settlements and increasing the number of settlers, as well as its continuing to develop plans to expand settlement construction in Jerusalem and throughout the Palestinian West Bank, thus, the continuation of the waiting policy is not less dangerous than the green light, which was given by Trump to expand settlements.
It constantly put sticks in the spokes of any move to reveille the Palestinian situation and return it to come into action and initiative by its disabling to the implementation of the national consensus decisions, including the Palestinian Central Council's resolutions in its seventh session in March 2015, which decided to halt the security coordination and boycotting the Israeli economy and mobilizing the popular resistance and protecting it and they stressed the need to follow up the Palestinian endeavor towards the United Nations to develop the decision of the recognition of the State of Palestine under occupation on the borders of June, 1967 and its capital in East Jerusalem, and activating Palestine's membership in the international institutions, particularly the international Criminal Court , and submitting urgent lawsuits in front of it against the occupation and trying it for its crimes and in the forefront of the looting of the ground and the deployment of the settlements and the demolition of Palestinian homes.
The continuation of this policy of waiting, aborts the efforts to end the division and restore unity, which is the basic condition for the advancement of the Palestinian situation and enabling it to collectively face the entitlements of what is happening on the ground at the hands of the occupation, armed by the liberation unified national program, and on the road to the restoration of unity, we have to progress towards elections starting from the local up to the presidential and legislative passing through the National Council, according to the proportional representation the election law to ensure the construction of the coalition political system that goes against the tendencies to monopolize the decision and the leadership and the malicious binary actions that emerged from the legislative elections of 2006 as they appeared because of the individual proportional mixed law.
The policy of waiting betted on a package of initiatives that talked about the Palestinian state as an attractive title, when all their texts and mechanisms gave the opportunity to the occupation to go on its policies of expansion, while they put the Palestinian negotiator in the corner of negotiation and prevent him from being free of movement toward the international community and its institutions. Whenever one of the initiatives was folded away, other initiatives appear as what was presented by Paris last year, and it held two conferences under the title of settlement; and the outcome was further failure added to its predecessors.
The settlement matter was resolved by the national consensus in several stations when it decided to boycott it if it was not based on the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, in the forefront UN resolution 194, which guarantees the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes and properties from which they were expelled from, without that, the vortex will continue, which its risks will increase with the continuation of the policy of waiting.
