The Zionist «McCarthyism»*
By: Mohammad Al-Sahli
November 22, 2017

Many people saw the adoption of the "boycott law" in Knesset, as an additional sign of the growing the "McCarthyism" in Israel, and the repugnant talk about democracy in Israel is a flimsy sign as what happened in the USA when failed to pin down as a defining symbol of its regime.

Since the fifties of last century, the successive governments of Ben Gurion put all those who criticized the crimes against the Palestinian people, prior to Nakba and after it, in the circle of accusation, as a collaborator with the enemies of Semitism and as an agent of those who want to cut the way to complete the Zionist project in Palestine.

While the Jewish state is increasing its aggression against the Palestinian people, and looting their properties, its government is beating the drums of war, to mobilize Israeli society, against the "existential danger" that threatens Israel directly or from the distant.

The adoption of the "boycott law" in the Israeli ministerial committee, affirms the strength of the campaign of boycotting Israel, which is active in different parts of the world. This campaign has ignited the state of occupation's concerns as a result of the economic and political losses it suffered, which indicates to a continuing escalation.

The Israeli government jumps intentionally above the reasons for the campaign and its expansion, which is connected to the continuation of occupation and the policy of spreading settlements, demolishing houses and plundering land, in addition to the direct attacks of Israeli forces against Palestinian communities and encouraging the settlers to do so, and all the Israeli propaganda and media claim that Tel Aviv stands in the face of the boycott campaign to save Israel, and that this campaign , its activity and the development of its role, is completely supported by the enemies of the Semitism.

This bill places every active individual or organization in Israel, that are involved with the boycott campaign, under the sword of legal accountability, and gives the right to any of the Israelis (including the government), who is "harmed" by the activities of this campaign, to file a lawsuit against these activists, including fines that could reach to a half million shekels.

Netanyahu's government wants to put an end to the Israeli voices, represented by some human rights organizations, which call for an end to the practices of the occupation's government against the Palestinians, and to portray these voices to Israeli society, as trumpets for their enemies abroad. At the same time, it doesn't forget to put the Palestinians in 48 areas in the forefront of the ranks that fuel hostility to Israel. From this corner, Knesset issued a series of laws that put the Arab MPs in the Knesset in a cage of proving loyalty to the Jewish state, and it tried to pledge their membership and their parliamentary role to this condition.

In this context, Israeli government made a series of accusations against a group of Palestinian figures, active in public affairs, because they have taken a range of positions that contradict with the occupation policies. The Labor Party is a good example as it decided that the Arab MP Zuhair Bahloul, will not be a candidate in the upcoming Knesset elections, as punishment for his refusal to participate in the celebration of Zionist camp of the centennial of the Balfour Declaration.

The main issue that provokes the occupation's government toward the activity of the boycott campaign, is that it is based on the crimes of occupation against the Palestinians as a fundamental justification for launching its calls for boycotting Israel politically, economically, academically and culturally, which will open directly to the call for redress for the Palestinians by recognizing their legitimate national rights, and exerting pressures that will affect the settlement and its future. The matter that increased the Israeli government's fears is that a number of European and other parliaments have taken decisions calling on their governments to recognize the Palestinian state, as a result to the campaign. These calls also are increasingly being reinforced by the resolutions of both the UNICEF and the United Nations World Peace Council, which assured the right of the Palestinians to own their historic sites in the cities of Hebron and Jerusalem, which has prompted the government of Netanyahu to seriously think about withdrawing from these institutions and setting up a counter-operation room for United Nations related resolutions. Netanyahu expressed about that to the UN General Assembly, when he criticized its decisions, which express, according to him, a "mechanical majority" that does not advance at all.

All above lead to the assertion, that the path towards the United Nations, is the right direction, that enables the Palestinian people to put the crimes of the occupation under the microscope of international legal accountability in accordance to the relevant UN resolutions and laws. This possibility has been available since the UN General Assembly recognized Palestine as a state under occupation, with the borders of the Fourth Of June 1967, and its capital is East Jerusalem, and thus allowed Palestine to join the membership of dozens of international institutions, including the Criminal Court, which has the power to receive and decide on Palestinian complaints.

What obstacles this orientation, is the Palestinian official policy, which has adopted to sit on the waiting seat, in an anticipation of what could be issued by the American administrations towards the settlement, and therefore it has been reluctant to do its role in activating the membership of Palestine in international institutions, as confirmed by the decisions of the Palestinian Central Council in its seventh session (5/3/2015). Among these decisions are : the cessation of security coordination with the occupation and the establishment of the political process on the basis of international resolutions, foremost of them is resolution 194, which guarantees Palestinian refugees the right to return to their homes and properties from which they have been expelled since 1948 (the Nakba).

By adhering to these decisions, the Palestinian national action can be advanced towards the achievement of Palestinian rights, and the Palestinian situation will move forward from the circle of hesitation and waiting to the initiative. At the gate of this road, the major national task is to end the division and restore unity under the banner of the Unified National Program.

Without this, the occupation will continue its expansionist and aggressive policies at the expense of the Palestinian people's rights in return and independence.
