October 16, 2017

Nayef Hawatmeh, secretary-general of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), welcomes the agreement that has been achieved by the Fatah and Hamas movements in Cairo and under Egyptian direct sponsorship, on the implementation of more than ten years understandings, to end the division and working to restore the internal unity.

At the same time, he saw that, what has been agreed upon, as not different from the comprehensive Palestinian national dialogue, which was achieved on May 4, 2011 in Cairo, which puts the blame on the two sides of division, Fatah and Hamas, who made this division lasts, and disrupted and blew up the many opportunities, that were available to end it, which requires them to lift the heavy burdens that have been placed by them on the shoulders of our people and to stop the damage that has been done to it.

He warned the two sides, Fatah and Hamas, from repeating the past experiences in disrupting what is agreed upon, especially when there is a concern in details, which requires the parties to have enough political will, to their assume national responsibilities towards the national cause and the interests of our people, to overcome the obstacles through the national initiative, to move the Palestinian situation to a new stage, that ends up the destructive division, that caused a horrible effect on national rights, and distorted our cause in the eyes of friends of Palestinian people and its allies, and pave the way to many regional parties and countries to make Interferences, that have contributed to increase the division and obstruct the Palestinian national struggle.

Hawatmeh made called on the Egyptian brothers, who directly conducted the Cairo dialogues between Fatah and Hamas, to assume their nationalist responsibilities, depending on the common interests between Palestine and Egypt, in sponsoring the implementation of what has been agreed upon, and to invite all Palestinians to a comprehensive dialogue session, to discuss the re-organization of comprehensive presidential and legislative elections, including the election of a new Palestinian National Council, with the closed list system and the full proportional representation, to be held in a place that will be agreed upon by all, in addition to that, the DFLP calls for its convention in Cairo, to end the miserable Oslo Accords, agree upon the unified national program (the program of national resistance, uprising and internationalization of the Palestinian national cause and rights).

Hawatmeh concluded his statement, by welcoming what has been agreed upon in Cairo, and by expressing his deep regret over the more than ten years of suffering and oppression that have been experienced by our people, under the division. Therefore, we call upon both parties, Fatah and Hamas, to shoulder their national and moral responsibilities, and to make a public apology to our people, its political forces, its allies and friends for the effects of this division, and for the national disasters that happened.
