Tayseer Khaled calls the Trump’s administration to act responsibly and to respect the international legitimacy resolutions about Jerusalem
December 20, 2016

Tayseer Khaled, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, a member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, called the US administration headed by Donald Trump to act responsibly and to respect the international law and the resolutions of the international legitimacy about the East Jerusalem.

He expressed at the same time, about the concern of the Palestinians from appointing the extremist American Jewish David Friedman as the US ambassador in Israel, because of his hostile attitudes record (against the rights of the Palestinian people and its ambition to be free from the occupation) and his supporting for the settlement aggressive policy of the government of Israel and his contributions in supporting the Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories by the aggression of June 1967.

In the light of this appointment and what will be issued of statements from close officials to the elected president Donald Trump regarding the transference of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Khaled recalled all the resolutions of the UN Security Council about the East Jerusalem starting with resolution N° 252 in 1968 and the subsequent resolutions of the Council and of the General Assembly of the United Nations, which condemn the Israeli non-commitment to the General Assembly resolutions that are related to the procedures and actions done by Israel and that aim to influence on the status of Jerusalem, by considering that all the legislative and administrative procedures taken by Israel, including the confiscation of the lands and properties - that aim to change the legal status of Jerusalem - invalid.

These resolutions call Israel to abort all those actions and to refrain from doing anything else that could change the situation of Jerusalem, according to the advisory opinion of the international Court of Justice on July 9th 2004, which confirms the legal status of the East Jerusalem as an occupied Palestinian city and an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories in June 1967.

He also added that: If the US administration of Donald Trump considers the appointment of David Friedman as an affair of sovereignty that can’t be discussed, so the fulfillment of this administration to the Trump pledges - in the last US presidential elections campaign – to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem cannot be a sovereignty affair without the disruption to the obligations of the United States towards the United nations and its charter, laws and resolutions, including the UN security Council resolution N° 478 in 1980, in which the Council denounced the Israeli Knesset decision to annex the East Jerusalem, and it called the countries that have established their diplomatic missions in Jerusalem to recall such missions from the Holy city, in addition, a step of this kind would spread the law of the jungle in the international relations and encourage the Israeli government to further extremism and to act as an exceptional state that doesn’t pay the international law any minimum respect and the serious repercussions that will be caused and that will push the conditions toward an inevitable explosion which the American administration will bear its responsibility.
