Appeal of Independence and Return

On the 70th anniversary of the Great National Nakba, Nayef Hawatmeh, Secretary-General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, addressed the "Appeal of Independence and Return", in which he said:

To our Palestinian and Arab masses and to the friendly and loving forces of peace and freedom

«Appeal of Independence and Return»

• A stand of homage and reverence before the sacrifices of our martyrs and the championships of our wounded, on the glorious day (14/5/2018) in defense of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine , in confronting the United States, defying it, rejecting its liquidating plan for the national cause and the deal of the century and in declaring that the strategy of resistance and popular uprising, leaving the Oslo tunnel and rehabilitating our unified national program, is the way to expel the occupation and the restoration of Jerusalem and every inch of our occupied Palestinian land.

• Seventy years in the Nakba, displacement, exile, resistance against the resettlement projects and the maintenance of Palestinian national identity.

• Fifty years in armed struggle, popular uprising and resistance to occupation and settlement, in defense of the legitimate national rights of our people to self-determination, independence, freedom, return and national dignity.

• Fifty years in defense of the unity of the people and the preservation of its rights and the unity of its national and democratic forces in the PLO coalition as its legitimate and sole representative with its national inclusive program.

• Today, as we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, through a major field unity, against the American aggression by moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem, and against the occupation and settlement projects and its aggressive bloody policies, we call for mobilizing elements of force in our people and our national movement by rebuilding the coalition national unity on a participatory basis, ending division, achieving reconciliation, and strengthening the representative position of the PLO, the overall framework of our people and all its political forces.

In this context, we call for the implementation of the decisions of the Palestinian National Council in its last session; to lift the collective punishment on the Gaza Strip, resume the payment of salaries and assistance to their owners from the Gaza Strip, and transfer operating budgets to official institutions, hospitals and service departments.

• Today, as we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nakba and stand united in the face of the American "deal of the century" with Arab reactionary collusion, we call upon the Executive Committee and the official Palestinian leadership to immediately implement the decisions of the 23rd session of our National Council, including:

1) Declaring officially the disengagement from the Oslo Accords and the Paris Economic Protocol by withdrawing the recognition of Israel, completely halting all forms of security coordination with the occupation, disengaging from the Israeli economy, withdrawing labor from settlement projects, halt dealing with Israeli shekel, restoring the population and land registries from the civil administration of occupation, as one of the aspects of national sovereignty over land and population.

2) Transferring the national cause to the United Nations forums by requesting for membership of the State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4 borders, resolving the refugee issue under resolution 194, asking for the international protection for our people , land and Jerusalem against occupation and settlement and calling for an international conference under the auspices of the United Nations and the five permanent members under the resolutions of international legitimacy, in order to guarantee to our people its right to an independent and sovereign State with East Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 borders and resolving the refugee issue under resolution 194, which guaranteed them the right to return to their homes and properties from which they have been displaced since 1948.

3) Transferring the cause to the International Criminal Court to try Israeli war criminals for what they have committed against our people, our families and our land, such as murder, collective punishment, looting and settlement.

4) Calling on the UN Security Council to activate its resolution 2334 on settlement, to delegitimize the occupation and isolate the Israeli entity internationally.

• As we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nakba in a wide confrontation with the occupation and the settlers, we call for reconsidering the PLO by adopting a strategy of revoking the Oslo Accords and their restrictions by restoring the powers of the Executive Committee, rebuilding its departments and ending the duplication between them and some ministries of the PA government(as the failure of building projects of institutions of the state of independence under occupation has been confirmed), rebuilding the structures of PA, its government and its programs to form a real national authority for the liberation movement of our Palestinian people in its uprising and resistance to occupation and settlement on the path of comprehensive national disobedience and achieving the necessary reforms in the PLO institutions, including the formation of an independent administration for the Palestinian National Fund, as a fund for all the people and not a means to settle disputes with political forces and individuals.

• In conclusion, as we bid farewell to this day, which is infused with the blood of the martyrs and the wounded, We renew our pledge to continue the road under the roof of the PLO and always under the umbrella of the national program, the program of return, self-determination, independence, freedom and national dignity, till the salvation from occupation and till the sun of the State of Palestine and Return rises.

And forward together
Long live Palestine
Long live the PLO
Eternity for Martyrs
Greetings to Prisoners
Healing for the Wounded
And Glory to Homeland
